The Teatro La Veleta is located on the Old Road to Daimiel, 3 km from the city centre.
Since 2011 and within the framework of the Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre, the Teatro La Veleta has hosted the International Contest Almagro OFF, created to promote new directors from the national and international scene with innovative and contemporary stage proposals on Baroque theatre.
This venue is also the home of the Latin American Centre of Theatre Creation and Research (CELCIT). Since its opening more than 35 years ago, more than 60 companies and various Ibero-American theatre celebrities have passed through its walls. The booming activity of the CELCIT was abruptly interrupted due to a fire in 2005. However, after several reconstruction works the theatre reopened in 2007 with the 7th Ibero-American Festival of Contemporary Theatre.
Leaving the town centre of Almagro, to head for the Teatro La Veleta is a breath of fresh air, a getaway to the beautiful natural environment that surrounds Almagro. The Festival also offers to the ticket-holders a free shuttle service, which runs between the town centre and the Teatro La Veleta.
It is a unique experience to get here and walk through the romantic garden along the tree-lined path leading to the Teatro La Veleta: a multi-purpose venue, which can seat up to 140 spectators, surrounded by other sites for exhibitions and workshops.
When the stage plays come to an end, another show starts leaving the Teatro La Veleta: the soft, fierce and brittle sunset in front of us. Admiring the sky of La Mancha at night- lit or veiled- with its unexpected purple, it is an unrepeatable experience as the Theatre itself.
